Laser Skin Treatments

There are many different types of treatments designed to improve one's skin. Because of the large number of procedures in existence, exactly what each treatment does and the extent of its benefits can be confusing.

Within this large category of skin treatments, is an entire group of treatments performed with lasers. There are many different types of lasers. A laser is a machine which produces light of a specific wavelength. Different lasers produce light of different wavelengths. Each laser can then be set to deliver different levels of energy.

The absorption of energy of a specific wavelength is the means by which a particular type of tissue is dessicated, or altered, by a laser. Various types of tissues preferentially absorb light of different wavelengths.

Therefore, Dr. Bluestein uses different lasers for different types of procedures. For example, a laser selected to fade or remove a red birthmark is different from one selected to remove a tattoo of a different color. Also, a laser used to perform skin resurfacing is different from one used to perform hair removal. Exactly which laser is used, and how, depends upon what Dr. Bluestein is trying to accomplish for you.
